Hoorae Media and TikTok Team Up to Launch Exclusive Free Micro-Series Globally
On April 8, celebrity creator Issa Rae’s media production firm Hoorae Media and TikTok unveiled a new collaborative partnership that will bring free, exclusive micro-series content to both the main TikTok platform and TikTok’s dedicated short-form drama hub, the PineDrama app.
The joint content rollout will launch later this month, kicking off with the premiere of Screen Time, an original series produced by Hoorae Digital. This release marks Hoorae’s first ever micro-drama project, and the agreement outlines that the company will co-develop a full slate of additional short-form series with TikTok as part of the long-term deal.
During her appearance at TheWrap’s Creators x Hollywood Summit on April 8, Rae shared that the partnership signals a full-circle return to her digital content roots. She first rose to public attention as an independent digital creator, launching her breakthrough debut series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl on YouTube back in 2011.
Rae explained that her team designed Screen Time specifically to align with how modern audiences consume narrative content, building it to be “more intentional, immersive, and story-driven” to fit current viewing preferences.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to tell stories in a way that feels premium and elevated, but is concise and available to audiences directly,” Rae said in an official statement. “TikTok has become a leader in content discovery and supporting creator-led work, so partnering with them gives us the platform to ensure our stories are seen and shared across the globe.”
TikTok first launched PineDrama in January, positioning the app as a space where users can “immerse [themselves] in short dramas, anytime.” Expanding into the multibillion-dollar global micro-drama industry creates new opportunities for TikTok to deepen audience engagement through serialized narrative entertainment.
