Not all industry experts take this pessimistic view, however. Kai-Fu Lee, CEO of Sinovation Ventures, has laid out specific, grounded predictions for how AI will reshape our world across multiple key sectors. Below are two of his core forecasts:
Reimagining the Global Workplace
Lee projects that by the 2040s, nearly all data will exist in digital form — meaning AI will have full access to this information to power data-backed decision-making and process optimization. AI systems and autonomous robots will take over the manufacturing, design, delivery, and marketing of most goods, while AI-powered service robots will handle all routine household chores.
This large-scale transition will eliminate millions of existing blue-collar jobs, but white-collar roles are equally at risk. AI can already support the work of research analysts, lawyers, and journalists by drawing on nearly infinite stores of collective knowledge, and routine white-collar positions such as telemarketing, basic accounting, and administrative paperwork processing will almost entirely be displaced by AI. Over time, most entry-level roles across industries will be replaced by automation as well.
While this sounds like a bleak outlook at first glance, Lee argues there is a clear silver lining. He predicts AI will also spawn countless new jobs that require uniquely human skills and judgment. Roles including Prompt Manager, AI Trainer, AI Auditor, AI Ethicist, and Machine Manager will become essential to help companies build and deploy AI safely and effectively. Ultimately, while this will be one of the largest labor market shifts in modern history, Lee frames the transition as an ultimately positive change.
